Mead plans $16.6 million police facility at Liberty Ranch campus

The Town of Mead is moving forward with construction of an approximately 20,000-square-foot police facility at the Liberty Ranch Municipal Facilities Campus near Highway 66 and Weld County Road 7, the town said. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 19, 2026, and construction is expected to be completed in late 2027.

The facility will replace the Mead Police Department’s approximately 2,400-square-foot modular building, which the town said lacks dedicated areas for officer training, interviews, private meetings with crime victims and processing. “We have simply outgrown our current triple-wide modular building, and those space limitations affect nearly every part of our day-to-day operations,” Police Chief Brent Newbanks said. “The new facility will allow us to streamline operations, provide greater privacy and support for victims of crime, improve how we manage evidence and interviews, and give our officers the space and resources they need to serve Mead effectively.”

Plans include training and interview rooms, secure evidence and property storage, private areas for crime victims, secure processing areas and separate circulation for the public, officers and detainees. The facility also will include space that can serve as an Emergency Operations Center and training room, along with capacity for community policing programs.

The project has a total budget of $16.6 million. The town is financing $16 million through Certificates of Participation, with the facility cost to be repaid over 14 years. The town said no new taxes are being imposed for the annual payments. The Mead Urban Renewal Authority has dedicated funding for those payments, and the Town of Mead also received a $600,000 Energy and Mineral Impact Assistance Fund grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs to support construction of the facility.
