Greeley museum to host author talk on ‘Centennial’ miniseries
Perry Hibner will discuss his oral history of the 12-part TV production, drawing on interviews with cast, crew and others. The noon presentation is free, and no reservations are required.
The Greeley History Museum will host a free presentation by author Perry Hibner on Sept. 24 about the making of the “Centennial” television miniseries, the City of Greeley said. The presentation will begin at noon in the museum’s Community Room, 714 8th St.
Hibner will discuss his book, Centennial Revisited: An Oral History of the Epic TV Miniseries, which draws on more than 75 interviews with actors, crew members, extras, local residents, experts and fans. The book also includes excerpts from more than 60 original sources.
The 12-part, 26-hour miniseries aired on NBC in 1978 and 1979. More than 28 million households watched the first episode on Oct. 1, 1978. Hibner’s interviews include major cast members Gregory Harrison, Barbara Carrera and Mark Harmon, as well as John Wilder, who adapted the novel for television and served as the main producer.
