Greeley could close 9th Avenue near St. Peter’s as soon as Sept. 21
The closure could last several months as crews build stormwater structures on-site. Businesses and sidewalks will remain accessible, but parking and transit will be affected; buses will detour through early October.
The City of Greeley could close 9th Avenue between 11th and 12th streets near St. Peter’s Catholic Church as soon as Monday, Sept. 21, for several months while crews install an underground stormwater system, the city said. Construction schedules are weather-dependent and may change.
The work area is tight, and the stormwater structures are too large to install as precast pieces. Crews will build the structures on-site. The city said the approach will reduce project costs and create more durable structures for long-term infrastructure needs. Once complete, the project will help reduce downtown flooding. “A stronger downtown infrastructure system benefits more than one neighborhood,” Mayor Pro-Tem Melissa McDonald said in a project update.
Other planned downtown changes include the closure of westbound 10th Street between 9th and 10th avenues during the week of Sept. 21. Westbound 10th Street between 8th and 9th avenues was scheduled to close during the week of Sept. 14, while the 7th Avenue and 10th Street intersection was scheduled to reopen during that week. The 8th Avenue and 10th Street intersection is expected to remain closed through late October, and 10th Street between 7th and 8th avenues remains closed through mid-October.
Businesses, sidewalks and pedestrian access will remain open, but some street parking near intersections may be temporarily unavailable. Greeley-Evans Transit Route 4 and Stop 287 will be affected; buses will detour using 6th Avenue and 8th Street through early October. A public project open house is scheduled for Sept. 24 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Kimberly’s Event Center, 1029 8th Ave., with a presentation at 6 p.m.
