Erie Mayor Andrew Moore plans to resign after 2027 budget adoption
Mayor Pro Tem Brandon Bell will take over under the town’s charter and serve until the November 2028 election. Bell’s council seat will stay vacant until January 2027, and voters won’t see a mayoral race on the 2026 ballot.
Erie Mayor Andrew Moore plans to resign effective immediately after the town’s 2027 budget is adopted, according to a town announcement. The adoption is currently scheduled for Nov. 10, 2026. Moore cited the demands of his professional career, family commitments and a recent health challenge.
“I simply can no longer do it all without jeopardizing my long-term health and important relationships,” Moore said in his announcement. He said he will continue working on the 2027 budget, long-term water decisions and a future Town Hall discussion about Flock cameras during the remainder of his service.
Under Erie’s Home Rule Charter, Mayor Pro Tem Brandon Bell will assume the mayor’s office when the vacancy occurs and serve until the next regularly scheduled mayoral election in November 2028. Bell has indicated he is willing and able to serve as mayor, the town said.
Bell’s District 2 Council seat will become vacant when he assumes the mayor’s office. The seat will remain vacant until the newly elected council member takes office in January 2027, and the mayoral seat will not appear on the November 2026 ballot, according to the town.
