Larimer County outlines Owl Canyon Road improvements and construction schedule
The first phase is expected to run through summer 2027, followed by a second phase through winter 2028-29. Intersection work could begin in fall 2028, with the project adding paved shoulders, drainage upgrades and a roundabout.
Larimer County plans safety and capacity improvements along a two-mile section of County Road 70 between County roads 11 and 15, with construction on the first phase expected to begin in November and the second planned to begin in November 2027. Intersection work is anticipated in fall 2028, according to a county project update.
The work will widen and reconstruct the roadway, add 8-foot paved shoulders in both directions and build a single-lane roundabout at County Road 70 and County Road 15. The project also includes replacing four bridges and two concrete box culverts with longer concrete box culverts, along with new curb and gutter, storm inlets and concrete culverts for drainage.
The first phase, between County roads 11 and 13, has completed design and right-of-way acquisition and has been advertised for construction. Work is expected to begin in November and continue through summer 2027. The second phase, between County roads 13 and 15, is about 90% designed, with construction planned to begin in November 2027 and continue through winter 2028-29.
Design for the County Road 70 and County Road 15 intersection is about 60% complete. Construction is currently anticipated to begin in fall 2028 and continue through 2029, depending on the progress of earlier phases and detour considerations. Owl Canyon Road connects Interstate 25 and Highway 287 about four miles north of Wellington; about 8.5 miles of the road have been completed, with three miles remaining between County roads 9 and 15.
