Larimer County extends Stage 1 fire restrictions through Nov. 3
The restrictions prohibit uncontained open fires, exploding ammunition and targets, and engines without working spark arresters. Masonry fireplaces, grills, smokers and certain permitted burns remain allowed under specified safety conditions.
The Larimer County Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 Tuesday to extend Stage 1 fire restrictions in unincorporated Larimer County, following a recommendation from the Larimer County Sheriff. The restrictions will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. Nov. 3, 2026, the county said.
The restrictions apply across all climate zones in unincorporated Larimer County. The county cited above-normal temperatures, extended drought and persistently windy, dry conditions as reasons wildfire danger remains high despite periodic precipitation.
Uncontained open fires, combustible devices such as exploding ammunition and exploding targets, and combustion engines without properly installed and functioning spark arresters are prohibited. People who knowingly violate the regulations can be fined.
Certain fires and activities are allowed under Stage 1 restrictions, including fires in permanently constructed masonry or metal fireplaces, charcoal and pellet-fueled grills and smokers, contained wood-burning fires, gas- or liquid-fueled fires, and outdoor smoking in a three-foot cleared area. Welding is allowed in a 10-foot cleared area when a functional fire extinguisher is present. Authorized burn permits and certain open burning for official forest-management purposes also remain allowed.
