Greeley to mark 16th Street project with Sept. 18 ribbon cutting
Greeley will celebrate the completed 16th Street corridor with a free Sept. 18 event from 4 to 8 p.m. outside UNC’s Skinner Music Library. The project added wider sidewalks, landscaping, lighting, parking and safer walking and biking access.
The City of Greeley will mark the completion of its 16th Street Enhancement Project with a ribbon cutting during the first Old Campus Bear Bash on Friday, Sept. 18. The free event will run from 4 to 8 p.m. on the lawn outside the University of Northern Colorado’s Skinner Music Library.
“The 16th Street Enhancements project, funded by state grants and local funds, serves as a gateway to UNC campus and helps bridge the gap between UNC and downtown,” Steven Younkin, chief engineer with the city’s Public Works Department, said in a news release.
The project area includes wider sidewalks, new landscaping and lighting, improved parking, street changes intended to slow traffic, and improved walking and biking access along 16th Street. Artist Mario Miguel Echevarria created sculptures for the corridor, with catenary lighting fixtures to be installed with the art.
UNC’s marching band and cheer team will begin the celebration at 4 p.m., followed by remarks and the official ribbon cutting at 4:15 p.m. The event will continue with live music and activities at 16th Street businesses. WeldWalls artists also will work on murals along the corridor during the evening, according to the city.
