One pedestrian killed, six hospitalized after Fort Collins crash
A Chevrolet pickup struck multiple pedestrians after driving onto the sidewalk in the 100 block of West Mountain Avenue Saturday, killing one person and sending six—including the driver—to hospitals. Police are investigating, including possible impairment.
One pedestrian was killed and six people were taken to area hospitals after a Chevrolet pickup truck drove onto the sidewalk and struck multiple people Saturday morning in the 100 block of West Mountain Avenue, the City of Fort Collins said.
Fort Collins 911 received several calls about the crash at 11:44 a.m. Aug. 29. Police said the truck reversed from a parking spot, struck another vehicle, then drove forward onto the sidewalk, hit pedestrians and collided with a tree before stopping near a business. The truck’s driver was among those transported.
The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will release information about the pedestrian who died. Police said they are investigating the events and factors leading to the crash, including whether impairment played a role. They do not believe the pedestrians were intentionally targeted.
The Fort Collins Police Services Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling Team investigated the scene. Mountain Avenue was closed between College Avenue and Mason Street for about six hours.
