Three pedestrians injured in Highway 287 crash in Loveland

Three pedestrians, including a 27-year-old Loveland father and his two young children, were injured Wednesday afternoon in a crash at Knobcone Drive and Highway 287, according to the city of Loveland.

Police said a 2015 Dodge RAM 1500 driven by a 34-year-old Loveland resident struck the family as they were lawfully crossing Highway 287 in a designated crosswalk just after 2 p.m. All three were taken to area hospitals, and two sustained serious bodily injuries, according to the city.

Preliminary findings indicate the truck had been stopped in the westbound left-turn lane on Knobcone Drive while waiting to turn south onto Highway 287. After an eastbound vehicle passed, the driver turned left and failed to yield to the pedestrians, police said. The impact threw the father to the ground, and one child was pinned beneath the truck’s front tire.

Police said drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors. Because of the severity of the crash, the department’s CRASH Team took over the investigation, and the roadway remained closed for several hours.

Chief Doran said the crash involved injuries that “could have been prevented” and urged drivers to slow down and avoid distractions, particularly with school starting soon. Loveland has recorded 12 pedestrian-involved crashes in 2026, including three in the past week.
