Timnath police launch Blue Envelope Program for traffic stops

The Timnath Police Department has launched a Blue Envelope Program aimed at making traffic stops less stressful and improving communication between drivers and officers.

The voluntary program is intended for people with disabilities, medical conditions, communication differences or other circumstances that may affect interactions during a traffic stop, according to the town’s program page. Participants can place documents such as a driver’s license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance inside the blue envelope and hand it to an officer during a stop.

The envelope can also include information about communication or support needs, along with optional emergency contact details and other information the participant chooses to share. The town says the program is designed to support safe and respectful interactions between community members and law enforcement.

Blue Envelopes are available at the Timnath Police Department, 5601 E. Harmony Rd.
