Greeley Downtown Infrastructure Project to Start the Week of July 30

Greeley will begin construction on its Downtown Infrastructure Improvements Project the week of July 30, according to a city news release. The work is part of the Downtown Revitalization Program and is meant to replace aging underground pipes, add stormwater pipes to reduce flood risk and prepare downtown for future improvements.

Crews will start on 7th Avenue between 9th Street and 10th Street, where they will install new utility pipes. The city said northbound 7th Avenue between 9th and 10th streets will be closed during the work, while southbound traffic will remain open. Crews usually will work from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., although overnight work may happen at times.

Businesses and sidewalks will stay open during construction, the city said. Adam Prior, the city’s deputy director and chief utilities engineer, said the underground work will provide benefits for many decades and that the city is committed to keeping businesses accessible and sharing updates during construction.

The city said the project will improve one mile of stormwater pipe, 1.3 miles of large stormwater box culverts and 2.25 miles of water, sewer and non-potable mains in downtown Greeley. It also will include road repairs, sidewalk and lighting improvements and changes intended to make downtown easier to navigate.

Greeley plans a ceremonial groundbreaking for Aug. 4 from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at 7th Avenue near 9th Street, next to the Greeley Area Chamber of Commerce at 902 7th Ave. The city said additional project information, construction updates and detour maps will be available through its Speak Up Greeley project page.
