Bicyclist killed in Fort Collins crash with semi-truck

Fort Collins police are investigating a fatal crash involving a semi-truck and an adult female bicyclist at East Mulberry Street and Whedbee Street, according to a Fort Collins police news release.

Police said Fort Collins 911 received the report at about 6:20 p.m. Monday. When officers arrived, they found the bicyclist had been struck and was dead at the scene. The semi-truck and driver stayed there, and the department’s Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling team took over the investigation.

According to Fort Collins police, the semi-truck was part of an ongoing construction project along that stretch of Mulberry Street. Investigators said the bicyclist was traveling from the north side of the road to the south side when she was struck. Construction personnel were also on scene at the time.

Sergeant David Lindsay, who oversees the CRASH team, said investigators are working to determine the factors that led to the collision and that the city’s victim advocate team responded to provide assistance.

Police said both directions of Mulberry Street will be closed between Remington Street and Riverside Avenue into the morning hours of Tuesday, July 7, because of continued roadwork related to the construction project. Police asked anyone who witnessed the crash and has not already spoken with investigators to contact Officer Matt Brede at 970-221-6842.
