Windsor backlot parking project closes downtown lot through September

Windsor officials said the 5th St. Backlots Project is underway and that the parking lot east of 5th Street between Boardwalk Park and Main Street closed Monday, June 15, with the work expected to continue through September, weather permitting.

The project includes replacing a waterline, installing a sewer line and constructing a new parking lot, according to the town’s project update. Officials said the improvements are funded through voter-approved Ballot Measure 200 and are designed to support the long-term needs of downtown Windsor.

A June 12 project update said parking will be completely unavailable in the lot during construction. Residents and visitors were encouraged to plan ahead for downtown events, including the Summer Concert Series and Windsor Farmers Market.

In the June 15 update, the town also told people planning to visit downtown this summer to review available parking options if they are attending Fourth of July festivities, Camp Windsor, local businesses or Boardwalk Park. The project page lists the budget at $257,000 and the location as Ash Street between 4th and 5th streets.
