Fort Collins police post notice about sexually violent predator release
Fort Collins Police Services has posted information online about the release of one sexually violent predator into the community, according to a city news release published June 17.
The department said the notice is being distributed under Colorado law to identify the offender and enhance public safety. The city said the material includes mature content and advised against allowing children to view it without adult guidance.
Police said the individual recently moved from Loveland to Fort Collins and is unhoused in the community. The department also said it does not have legal authority to direct where a sex offender may live unless court restrictions apply.
According to the release, information about sexually violent predators is also posted on the Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s website and on the SOTAR tracking site. The city said anyone who uses the information to harass, threaten or intimidate a registered sex offender, family members or people involved in the offender’s management could face criminal prosecution.
