West Greeley oversight committee urges search for financing partner and pause

The West Greeley Citizen Oversight Committee has made its first formal recommendation to Greeley City Council after six weeks of reviewing project information, asking questions and evaluating options.

According to the city, the committee recommended that Greeley keep looking for a financial partner that could secure better interest rates. It also recommended pausing its work until a potential partner is found and more details are available.

The committee asked for additional information on updated project costs and economic development projections. The city’s project page also said members want more information on project finances, costs and obligations before resuming discussions.

The recommendation was shared with City Council on June 9. If a financing partner is found, the committee will meet again to evaluate possible next steps.

Bret Naber, the city’s deputy city manager of infrastructure, said the committee reviewed complex information over the past six weeks and “worked through the facts, listened to one another and found common ground.”
