Greeley recorded a 15.1% decrease in violent crime during the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, ranking second statewide behind Aurora's 16.8% drop, according to a report released Tuesday by the Colorado Division of Criminal Justice. The decline was part of a broader 13.3% statewide decrease in violent crime.

Greeley's steep decline makes it a standout in Colorado's broader crime drop, raising questions about which local policing and prevention strategies are driving the improvement.

Violent crime dropped across all major categories statewide. Robberies fell 25.7% (476 fewer incidents). Homicides decreased 29.5% (42 fewer deaths). Aggravated assaults dropped 11.7% (1,198 fewer crimes). Rape cases declined 10.7% (335 fewer victims) from January through June 2024 to 2025.

"I am thrilled to see our data-driven investments in law enforcement support and crime prevention are working," Governor Polis said. "Securing our safety is the bedrock of our quality of life in Colorado and that's why investing to build safe communities is a priority for me."

Property crime also declined 17.5% statewide, with motor vehicle thefts down 34.5%.

Greeley's 15.1% drop continues a steep multi-year decline. From the first half of 2023 to the first half of 2024, Greeley's violent crime fell 33%—from 480 to 322 incidents. That outpaced the statewide drop of 10% over the same period. Aggravated assaults fell from 348 to 264 incidents, a 24% reduction.

Greeley firearm-theft incidents also dropped, declining from a peak of 97 in 2023 to 64 in 2024. The city had seen gun thefts rise from 44 in 2019 to the 2023 high before the recent decline.

"Seeing these improvements across our state is a testament to the dedication of our local partners and the resilience of our neighborhoods," said Matthew M. Lunn, director of the Colorado Division of Criminal Justice. "We are proud of the progress we've made together to make Colorado a place where families can thrive without the fear of crime."

Among Colorado's largest jurisdictions, Aurora led with a 16.8% decrease in violent crime, followed by Greeley's 15.1% decrease, Lakewood's 11.2% decrease, and Denver's 10.2% decrease.
