Greeley sets free pre-Chautauqua events at Centennial Village
Greeley will host two free pre-Chautauqua events at Centennial Village Museum in July ahead of the High Plains Chautauqua festival, the city said.
On Thursday, July 23, Young Chautauquans will perform at noon in the Weld Centennial Church during the museum's monthly History Hour series. The city said the students research a person from the past, write and memorize a first-person monologue, present it and answer questions as that person.
A second event, a walking tour of Centennial Village, is set for July 27 at 5:30 p.m. City Historic Preservation Planner Betsy Kellums and City of Greeley Museums staff will lead the tour, which the city said is being held in honor of Centennial Village's 50th anniversary. Centennial Village was created in 1976 to mark Colorado's 100th anniversary of statehood.
Both events are free and open to the public, and no reservations are required. The High Plains Chautauqua festival will run Aug. 3-7 at Aims Community College's Welcome Center, with the theme of America's 250th anniversary, according to the city.
Centennial Village Museum is at 1475 A Street in Greeley. The city said people can contact Betsy Kellums in the Historic Preservation Office for more information.
