Greeley approves $150,000 FAA airport grant for runway resealing project

The Greeley City Council voted Tuesday to approve a $150,000 Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program grant agreement for the Greeley-Weld County Airport Authority. The approval came as part of the consent agenda under Item 17, authorizing the city to sign onto the grant as one of the project sponsors for work to reseal Runway 17/35 at the airport.

The grant is tied to an application submitted April 13 by the City of Greeley, Weld County and the airport. City documents say the federal money would support about 23% of the total runway resealing project. The FAA agreement sets the maximum federal share at $150,000 and says the funds will be deposited directly to the Airport Authority.

The city said its role is limited to co-signing the agreement as a sponsor and that the grant creates no financial obligation for Greeley. The fiscal impact in the council packet was listed as "No Impact" because the grant is with the airport, not the city.

Resolution No. 98, 2026 authorizes Mayor Dale Hall to execute the agreement on the city’s behalf and agree to the grant terms and conditions. Weld County has already authorized the grant, and the airport authority was expected to do the same.

Under the FAA documents, the grant offer expires July 15, 2026, and signatures must be completed by then. The performance period runs for four years from acceptance, with a possible one-time extension of up to one year if requested in advance. The agreement also requires annual reporting while the grant remains open and says the project must be completed without undue delay.
