Loveland police arrest former jiu-jitsu instructor on sexual assault charges

Loveland police say they arrested a 29-year-old former jiu-jitsu instructor on Friday, July 3, after investigating multiple allegations of sexual assault involving two juveniles.

According to a city news release, the Loveland Police Department’s Criminal Impact Unit arrested Alexander Hawkeye Martinez on an arrest warrant after the victims came forward and disclosed the abuse. Police said Martinez and the victims knew each other, and the alleged offenses occurred while he served in a caregiving role.

Martinez was booked into the Larimer County Jail on two counts of Sexual Assault on a Child – Position of Trust, one count of Sexual Assault on a Child – Position of Trust under Colorado law, and two aggravated sex offense sentence enhancers, the release said. Over the weekend, Magistrate James McDonald set bond at $200,000 cash only with pretrial restrictions.

The police department said Martinez previously worked as an instructor at Infinite Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Loveland and also goes by the nickname “X.” Investigators believe additional victims may exist because of the nature of the investigation and Martinez’s previous role as an instructor and caregiver, according to the release.

Lt. Heather Moore of the Criminal Investigations Division said in the release that the victims’ willingness to speak up made the investigation possible. Police asked anyone with information about similar incidents to contact the Loveland Police Department Tip Line or Larimer County Crime Stoppers.
