Greeley sets rules for reserving parade spots along downtown route

Greeley officials are reminding residents about rules for reserving space along the downtown route for the city’s Independence Day parade, which is scheduled for Saturday, July 4, at 9 a.m.

The city said people should not save spaces until after 3 p.m. on July 2. It also asked residents not to place tape, strings attached to stakes, tarps, plastic or blankets on grass, sidewalks or other hard surfaces. Officials said those items can create tripping hazards, damage surfaces and interfere with park staff maintenance, and they will be removed.

The city said chalk may be used to mark spaces on sidewalks and other hard surfaces, but nothing should be placed on grassy areas. It also asked people to respect private property along the parade route by staying off lawns and driveways that are not their own, avoiding blocked access and picking up trash before leaving.

Along 16th Street, the sidewalks at the intersection of 16th Street and 10th Avenue will remain open for walking and viewing the parade. Parade floats will pass closer to public viewing areas as they move through the 16th Street roundabout, and the city asked people to stay behind the marked pedestrian guardrails. The city said barriers should not be used as seating or to reserve spots.

The city also said many downtown streets will be temporarily closed the morning of July 4 for the parade and asked attendees to use nearby public parking lots and plan ahead.
