Kanin Energy to build waste heat power system at Platteville gas plant

Kanin Energy says it plans to develop a 7-megawatt waste heat to power facility at Phillips 66’s Mewbourn natural gas processing complex in Platteville.

The project would capture waste heat from gas compression turbines and convert it into electricity for use at the plant, according to the company. Kanin Energy said the system is intended to provide baseload power, support plant reliability and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The announcement matters locally because the project is tied to one of Platteville’s industrial sites and would add on-site power generation at the complex. Construction is expected to begin later this year.

Kanin Energy said it will develop, own and operate the facility as a turnkey project, which it said would let Phillips 66 use its waste heat resources without upfront capital investment.
