Loveland utilities offers summer efficiency tips and updates appliance recycling
Loveland Utilities is urging customers to reduce water and energy use this summer and announced changes to its appliance recycling program.
In a June 1 news release, the city said summer electric rates begin in July and that it continues to monitor drought conditions. Customers were directed to the city’s water page or to call 970-962-3355 for current watering rules.
The city listed several water-saving steps, including checking toilets, faucets, hoses and sprinkler lines for leaks; upgrading to efficient fixtures; running only full dishwasher or laundry loads; and watering lawns during cooler hours. It said irrigation can account for up to 50% of annual water use.
For energy use, the release suggested sealing windows and doors, maintaining air conditioning systems, using ceiling fans, keeping curtains and blinds closed during the day and using grills or small appliances instead of ovens or stoves. The city also pointed customers to Efficiency Works for rebates and energy advising.
The city said it is joining Efficiency Works on June 1 to offer a different appliance recycling program. Loveland’s current program ends July 1, and the new program will include in-home pickup, commercial regular and bulk pickups, and the option to add mini-fridges or room and window air-conditioning units to regular pickups. The city said terms and conditions apply and customers can sign up online or call 970-962-3000.
