Greeley honors preservation leaders with annual awards
Greeley’s Historic Preservation Commission recognized local preservation leaders during the city’s Historic Preservation Month Celebration on May 21 at the Greeley Creative Arts Center.
The annual awards honor people and groups whose work has helped protect and restore historic places in Greeley, according to the city. Betsy Kellums, a historic preservation office planner, said the awards highlight people and organizations helping to safeguard the community’s historic legacy.
Gerald DeLue received the individual award for his restoration of 1014 16th St., where he replaced damaged wood siding to match the home’s original profile. Roy Wardell was recognized for his support of the Macy Allnutt project, including a donation that helped make the purchase and restoration of the building possible.
The Greeley Creative District received the organization award for its work to transform the historic Macy Allnutt building into its future home. Sam Jantz of Choice Builders was honored in the contractor/design professional category for restoration work on several historic buildings in the city, including the Masonic Events Center, Kress Cinema, Ringle-Gurtner House and Bessie Smith House.
The city also presented a new Legacy Keepers Award to Greeley Museums staff and the Museum Advisory Board. The award recognizes their work preserving and sharing the history of Greeley and Weld County and their partnership with the Historic Preservation Office.
